A little bit about me

Hi! I’m Mrs. Lewis.  I am new to the Forest Pines Drive Elementary family this year and extremely excited to be a part of it.  I have previously taught Pre-Kindergarten at Bright Horizons in Raleigh and Kindergarten at Wakelon Elementary School in Zebulon.   I am originally from New Jersey where I was born and raised.  I went to Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania and graduated with a Dual Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education.  I recently got married (in May 2012) and my husband and I live in North Raleigh with our two black labrador mixes, Max and Storm.  In my free time I like to travel, walk our dogs, cook, and watch sports.  I am so pleased to be here at Forest Pines Drive Elementary!

A little bit about our classroom

Our school day begins at 9:15 each day.  Students may enter the room between 8:45 and 9:15.  Dismissal is at 3:45.
Lunch and Snack
If you are sending a lunch with your child, please make sure that their snack and lunch are in different bags and are labeled with their name.  If your child will be buying lunch, (a full lunch may be purchased from the cafeteria for $2.00) please label their snack with your their name on it each day. Snacks should include a drink.  Some suggested snacks are; sliced vegetables and dip, fruit, low sugar cereal, cheese sticks, dried fruit, pretzels, crackers, ect.
Money
Periodically your child will bring money to school for various reasons.  If you are sending money to school, please place it in an envelope or baggie with your child’s name on it and the purpose for the money.  All checks should be payable to Forest Pines Drive Elementary unless otherwise specified.
Volunteers
We enjoy having our parents come into our classroom to help out with our centers, reading a book, celebrations throughout the year, ect.  Some of you have already indicated that you would like to be a volunteer in our classroom.  Please let us know if you would like to be a regular volunteer.  If you would like to be a volunteer either in the classroom or on field trips, you must register with the office.  You will need to fill out a confidentiality form first, and then you will be directed to a computer to register.  Right now you can register any day of the week.  After 11/1/12 it will only be on Mondays.
Each month, a calendar will be sent home with a list of the daily volunteers.  If you cannot sign up on a regular basis, but would like to volunteer for special events you will get email notifications about these opportunities.
Transportation
Please remember to notify us in writing or call the front office if there are any changes to the way your child will be going home from school.  Without written instructions from you or notification to the front office, we will send your child home in the usual manner.  We cannot accept verbal changes from your child or a sibling.
Clothing
Tennis shoes/sneakers are the preferred shoe for Kindergarten.  They really should be worn every day.  Shoes without backs (ie: flip flops) are never allowed.  If you have not yet sent in a spare pair of clothing please do so as soon as possible.  You need to include pants, shirt, underwear and socks.
Birthdays
We know how special birthdays are to you and your child.  You may send in a special snack on that day. Some suggestions are: Ice pops, mini cupcakes, cookie cake, and brownies. Snacks must be store bought and in the store packaging, they cannot be homemade.  We can only serve the birthday snack at lunchtime.
Communication
Every day your child will take home a daily folder.  If you have any notes to send in, please be sure that they are inside the folder.
